how wide? how wide ? wide?
in this example i went with the nikon 50mm pancake (serie e), which i kind of love (apart from it’s low iris blade count).
To make a long story short in this example I only repaired the over compression by a factor of 70% or something, to still get some sort of anamorphic look. Therefor the squeeze factor jumped from 1.75X to 1.91X. Obviously this changes when using longer focal length. In the surge for looking for the widest aov (angle of view) this is not the end. BECAUSE what if we would aim to deliver in 2.39? I calculated that in this case in combination with the edge compression fix (which will push vignetting outside the 2.39 frame. we can go all the way up to 40mm. Making this lens about as wide as a xelmus (xelmus has more over compression thus higher total squeeze ratio)_
Here is already an explanation of this math.. if we can clear 2.87 easily with a 50mm. than we can clear 2.39 with a 40mm (obviously with a ege over compression fix) . How on earth do i calculate this?
2.89: 2.39 is around 1.2X . then a 50mm focal length devided by 1.2 is around a 40mm focal length. Simple right?
Next time some footage with a 40mm.
If you didnt understand a thing of what I said, don’t panic! just ask questions..
