This weekend we were very honored to had Valdas Misevicius (Mr. Aivascope) and his daughter over at our office, all the way from Lithuania. They brought a few very cool and exciting lens projects. One of these lenses is the highly anticipated Aivascope 1.75x with an improved helicoid which we will also see in the December batch of Aivascope 1.5x . It has better grease leak protection compared to the current ones and an all new skew locking ring. The 1.75 is slightly bigger than the 1.5x and thus also a bit more heavy it features a 40mm rear element and we found it can cover a 50mm focal length in 36×24mm sensor dimension which gives a 2.63 aspect ratio without vignetting. The lens is amber coated with a few hints of magenta. Close focus is 80cm. Coverage / distortion here is the most ugly but also an important test.. bottlenecking the scope with a 50mm pancolar. and reveiling its distortion. All specs are in the video. As you can expect the most extreme thing you can do is do pans, with straight lines close to the camera (1.5m away is the window). Also as you can expect there is some anamorphic breathing going on, when going from infinity to close focus (80cm) > this is no sharpness test, zero contrast ratios (overcast), and a 50mm 1.9 wfo 🙂

a bit more info The Aivascope 1.75X has a slight improved helicoid and a protection against grease leakage, The latest generation of the 1.5X (gen4) has a 38mm rear optical element, and the 1.75X is even larger, featuring a 40mm rear element. The total weight of the 1.75X including the Rod support is 1.4Kg which is about 600 grams more than the 1.5X. Close focus is the same as the 1.5X namely 80cm, and we found that the scope is able to resolve a 50mm focal length on a 36X24 sensor which equals a 2.63 aspect ratio. When finalizing in 2.39 a shorter focal length would be possible. The 1.75X has a similar coating to the 1.5X which has predominantly amber and a hint of magenta. the front filter thread is 82mm The price of the Aivascope 1.75X will be 2300 euro ex vat, if you are within the EU and you can provide us with a VAT number we won’t add VAT to the invoice. Most of you will not go such wide, but it’s good to know whats possible. This was taken with a 36X 24 sensor, so leading to around 2.66 cinemascope aspect.

Hi Jerome, I would like to know the front filter thread size and front diameter size of the 1.75x. I’ve heard the price will be around the same as the 1.5x can you confirm this? And in comparison to a DIY anamorphic solution, such as a 16h + FM, what would be the pros/cons? Cheers! 🙂

Biometar 80mm in OG Biometar 80mm in 36X 24mm in open gate, not the sharpest taking lens, but a beautiful ‘ vintage ’ zeiss rendition.

NIKON pancake 50mm in 16X22mm okay now we saw the usual suspects, what about a sharp pancake in 16X22 mm image size. A nikon pancake 1.8 50mm multicoat (i have a edition that doesn’ t have blue green coat but magenta purple amber). set at f2.8. even though the MAVO edge has low rolling shutter, anamorphic will increase rolling shutter artefacts by the number of it squeeze ratio , in this case 1.75X. I love the 16X 22 mode in the mavo lf which will get you extremely close to native 2.39. I don’t like a 50m with 1.75X in open gate (36X 24mm), even though it works its too extreme aov for me, but if anyone wants to see proof, a pancake can cover without severe vignetting, shoot me a message here. IN this example, same light as in previous example, exact same grading. \

I tried to search the forum for an answer, but didn’t find exactly. The question would be: Do you see any foreseeable issues if using MFT sensor camera (ZCam E2-M4 or GH5s) with speedbooster/focal reducer (0.64x or 0.71) and EF mount taking lens (35mm to 85 mm, in my case Zeiss Distagon/Planar) with the Aivascope 1.75x? I can of course look for other taking lens, if Zeiss’es wouldn’t work. Would the focal reducer induce some unwanted distortions etc? Ready to buy if works!

Hilzi if you like the speedbooster in your spherical glass you will like it on your anamorphic lenses as well. The speedbooster might add a tiny bit of barrell distortion and blooming, which most people enjoy. If you have any other questions please go ahead. 1.75x ordered, eagerly waiting to see how it works with my setup. BTW, yes I like the image from MFT sensor (ZCam E2-M4, Lumix GH5s) with the Zeiss Distagon/Planar ZE T* lenses, using speedbooster. Those Zeiss’es have a 58 mm front thread, so fitting should be easy… I just hope the taking lens front glass diameter will be enough for the Aivascope 1.75x (43 mm for Zeiss Distagon T ZE 35mm f2, 40 mm for Zeiss Planar T* ZE 50 mm f1.4, with approximate measurement).

@Jerome looking forward to receiving my 1.75 Scope! I would just like to confirm whether the Rod supports will work with 15mm Rods? Or are they intended for the larger 19mm ones? I’m using a Canon R5 with 15mm rods and hoping I don’t have to change my base plate system. Also how is the scope shipped? I’m hoping it will arrive safely in the USA.

Jerome I used Sekor C (without n) I went up to 80mm maximum. Stayed most of the time in 45/55 and sometime 80 for closeups

I have a small issue. My scope is rotating with sometimes with my follow focus.

Is there a trick to get it really fixed? I did always screw by hand at my maximum. Didn’t want to start using tools.

Zhong what follow focus do you use? Motorised? And yes we are working on different screws. You are allowed to tighten them a bit further. But if you use very high torque motors we advice to set in and out points

Jerome @Zhong - could you guys share more info on how you’re using the XUME magnetic adapter. From what I have seen the magnetic part is on the filter and the filter tray on the lens is not magnetic. Is there a version where the filter tray / receiver is magnetic or is there a 62mm thread magnet that would go onto the back of the Aivascope 1.75x? Many thanks for any tips.

Hey, I just received my 1.75X Aivascope and I want to put a push on cap for the rear element. The thread diameter appears to be 62mm. Can anyone confirm if a 62mm or 63mm push on cap would work?
