in this topic we will continuously update you with new firmware for the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8K. ### Today we released firmware 6715 Update Note： Upgrade from lower version firmware to 6715 use the fat 32 formatted drive you got with your camera, make sure only fw 6715 is in the drive root -make sure you have enough battery power for at least 15 minutes, so the installation doesnt get interrupted. Restart Edge in the calibration mode by holding the menu button while pressing the power button for 1 second, hold the menu button for 4 more seconds when booting. if you succeeded you will see a yellow line indicating your in ‘calibration mode’ perform a black balancing (menu | system | black balance) Restart Edge, and your done New Updates Added Shutter speed/angle fine-tuning. Added ProRes 4444 high-efficiency mode, the data rate is optimized to 50% of standard ProRes 4444 with marginal compromising on the quality of the image, it also supports ProRes 4444 editing and color grading system. this makes the new codec more efficient than prores 422 hq but with better image quality. Added Timecode Jam Sync function Added FF 8K OG(8192X5288) resolution Adjust lowest recording fps from 6fps to 2fps Improvement Improved the stability of the camera system under ProRes4444 codec SDI output supports the anamorphic format Video output shows correct output Dead pixel removal is effective under calibration mode SDI output is stable when recording 75 or higher fps Recording is stable when continuously pressing the rec button Improved the stability of identifying KineMAG Nano 1TB after hot-swapping. Prores 444 efficiency codec One of the most striking features of this update is Prores 444 efficiency codec. Its a new sort of compression which reduces file size to about 50% compared to the original Prores 444 filesize, this is smaller than Prores 422HQ, and it will playback on any computer and nle. As a comparison Prores 444 is 1.5 more data than 422hq. so now the new Prores 444 format is only 75% of prores 422HQ. And image degradation is kind of absent, we will run some deep test but it seems awesome!

This is probably a stupid question but got the Edge yesterday and only had a quick look but i noticed the side display on the camera didn’t have anything on it…Codec ect. Is it something i am missing in the menu to turn this on? Many Thanks J

JamesC there are no stupid questions! The full ability to see also the middle part of the sidedisplay reflecting important settings like codecn media and resolutins and audio settings, will be enabled in the next upcoming firmware. BY the way if you just got your camera you probably are not yet on firmware 6715 which you find in the post above.(i merged your question in the fw topic)

HI Jermoe, All updated! One other thing that i find strange is that when changing iso or wb on the side you cant look at the side screen and choose what you need as nothing changes…you need to look at the monitor to see the changes…Seems like an easy fix that would need to be done as i seen a youtube video were that already worked. Jerome Hello. Is there a way for Apple / Mac (only) computer users to do the firmware update? The SSD card can only be read and downloaded from - but not uploaded to - via OSX.

MAuger I guess this is a misunderstanding. You do a fw update with a USB stick fat 32 formatted. The fw can both be downloaded on a mac or Windows computer and out on a USB stick. The camera is shipped with a USB stick with a USB c converter to put in the camera. Let us know if this worked for you!

Success with update. Then spent last hour trying to get the App to work, but have not been able to so far. Any suggestions. I’ve tried connecting to my home wifi (after generating a QR code). The Edge asks to connect when I place QR in front. It then flashes ‘wifi’ for several seconds but does not give an indication it has connected. I test with App but it ’failed to connect). I do have the antennae on. Any suggestions?

MAuger hamg in there your almost there. If you connected then you will see when you prees menu left hand corner the op address. You can fill that in on the app and it will work. Let us k pw if you succeeded!

7029 Firmware Update
Updating from the firmware version before KineOS.6747, you need to update to KineOS.6745 first.
After the update from KineOS.6745 to KineOS.7029 is completed， we suggest conducting a black balancing under calibration mode.

Note: After the black balancing is conducted, if dark spots are still found: enter the calibration mode, set ISO to 800,
take off the cap in front of the sensor, evenly expose light to the sensor, and reduce the screen brightness by reducing the shutter.
(Shutter reference 1/2500-1/4000), until the dark spot is obvious on the Kine monitor, click MENU->System->Dark spot removal->Confirm.

Note: If the user is updating from fw7020, they need to change the file name from edge.7029.pak to edge8k.7029.pak So the camera will recognize the file.

Kinefinity officially released the firmware KineOS 7.1 for MAVO Edge cameras.

KineOS 7.1 has fully optimized and upgraded the SDI function.

While monitoring, SDI status bar and menu can fully display on the screen. More SDI frame rate settings and trigger recording function has been added

In this updating, we also launched the whole new ProRes4444 efficiency mode. With the same high dynamic range and visual information fidelity, the material compression ratio is increased by 50% under this mode, which greatly saves the space of the SSD.

KineOS 7.1 also adds a variety of anamorphic options to adapt to more anamorphic lenses, allowing to shoot cine-like film.

Many small functions has also been optimized in this updating: improved response speed while switching between preview and playback mode, new designed VU meter, more blanking display options and more logical monitor operating methods.

All-round Upgrade for SDI

In addition to the greatly improved monitoring image quality, the newly added SDI menu helps cameraman to fully control the parameters.

Switching from the monitoring image with/without parameter information.

frstfilm some autio updates were done, but the sdi update was so much work, whichj took all the effort, so iam sure next fw updates we will see more improvements on audio monitoring.

Hi!

I’m having some troubles updating my Mavo Edge 8K. I updated successfully from 6715 to 6745 then from 6745 to 7029 but the thing is I did not understand how to perform the “second updating” gafpa gear advices in its instructions for the Kinemon 5U. After the second updating and rebooting, I could not have the screen to turn on and it actually scared me. The camera seemed to be working very well (i could change settings) but the screen would not turn on, just the LED on the monitor flickering in RED, even after waiting more than 30 minutes and taking in and out the monitor cable. Finally I shut down the camera pushing on the power button and rebooted it and everything is fine since then.

But I’m still wondering if I did it all good anyway. I reset the settings as indicated but could not perform a black balance too. When I do (powering the camera with the menu button), the cursor goes back to cancel and the menu freezes (I cannot move the joystick). I can quit by pushing the menu button but after waiting more than 10 minutes, there is no message indicating that the procedure is done.

Can you help me with that ?

I wanted to test the efficiency mode for the production house I’m working with but cannot find the Compression setting in the 7.029 version.

Hi @Jerome I am having the same issues with HE, I can’t find it in Menu nor in Calibration more. I had a similar experience than Nalicoco when upgrading to the latest firmware.

And I have 2 questions about this last firmware.

can the beep sound when starting recording be silenced?

And I don’t seem to be able to change the presets list, is there a way to personalize those preset? I am following what the manual says but I get even more confused.

Borja_Campillo Hey Borja, 444he was a beta function and now been discontinued, due to diminishing results. As you might know its about the same size as 422hq, but when checking shadow details etc. it seemed 422hq did a better job.
Th beep sound you can find under the sync menu, please let us know if you cant find it and we will help you.
Changing presets is fairly easy. just go inside the menu, first entry, and choose save as preset, then choose which number you want to override and its there, please let us know if you can’t find it.

Hi Jerome @Jerome - I’m late updating my MAVO Edge 8K firmware. Still on 6.715. I’d like to update to 7.0 then 7.1 but in order to do so it looks like I have to first have 6.745 installed. Do you have a link to this firmware? Couldn’t find it on the Kinefinity site, or Gafpa/Support. Appreciate the help!

It’s a shame that we’ve had a few firmware updates now for the newer cameras but the older Mavo s35 is no longer getting any support. I don’t even see the firmware on the website for those cameras. Are we to believe these will no longer be updated in the future? It’s still a decent camera - and though I wish I could afford an upgrade, I just can’t at the moment. Would love to see more support for current owners.

It’s important to note that this particular camera has been discontinued for approximately two years now. As such, we consider this model to have reached the end of its development cycle.

However, it’s worth mentioning that the existing features on the MAVO S35 continue to perform exceptionally well. Typically, in the case of Kinefinity cameras, the expected lifecycle for firmware updates spans around 3 to 4 years. On the brighter side, our newer MK2 models are receiving frequent firmware updates, primarily focused on enhancing stability.
