Smooth playback on MAVO Edge 8k

Hi all,

I recently purchased an lf but the playback with it was very choppy on set so couldn’t be used for a job we had with a client. We were thinking of changing to the edge but would love to know if the playback is perfect on the new edge?

also is wireless monitoring smooth?

We just can’t be having choppy monitoring or playback if we are reviewing steadycam ect.. we live the image but I guess everything needs to work right for it to be a production camera

Hey James,
The mavo lf should be smooth in 3k oversampled but not in 6k. The Mavo Edge 8k has a all new shipset making it possible to playback 8k prores4444. I will show an example later today in this same conversation. What do you mean with wireless monitoring? You mean by WiFi or with a third party 3g sdi to radio wireless like a terradek?

ah ok that’s great to know as it pretty much means the mavo lf won’t be suited for the production we are working on but if the edge has smooth playback through all the formats up to 8k 4444 then it’s still an option.

the monitoring I found to be really lowered through teredek which with choppy playback wasn’t suitable for bigger productions on set with multiple monitors to client ect.

Hoping the edge has all these issues amended as we have been told we can upgrade but I had spoke to a tech at Kine finity and wasn’t sure if all was resolved to a standard we needed.. would be great to hear and see sample as it would be super helpful.

Playback is very smooth no problem at all, but the color is different from the live view. I get a pink cast.

Big problem is that once has to operate play back from the camera. I have the camera often high up out of reach and I can’t playback. We need playback on the App….

Live view over SDI is currently very low res and only 25fps. Will we see an upgrade on one point?

Raymond Hey Raymond yes we will see an update very soon, eventually the project fps will be the same as the fps that the sdi is outputting. ofc with limitations, for some fps. but 24,25 30 etc will all be possible

Hi guys,

I was shooting a job on the Edge yesterday in FF 4k 16/9 in 50 FPS and had problems with the playback.

The playback on the Monitor(I was told it was the old version of the 7″ one, not the ultra bright) was really stuttering.

Like stop frames.

I trieded to set the display frame rate to 50FPS but the camera only gives me the choice for 60 FPS.

You think that is the reason for the stuttering playback?

Formwandler Hey Formwandler, welcome on our forum. I was not able to replicate your issue. so we need a bit more info, the easiest way is to copy paste your slate info (text file which is in each recording folder), so we can check what might have caused this.

Is there a possibility to change monitoring to 50FPS?

a quick check, because the monitoring fps hasnt anything to do with this. keep it on 60.
Could you disable all the wifi settings? (under network), and try again. Basically it doesnt matter that you recorded in 50fps, your project fps is at 25 so it should playback and show your footage in slowmotion, and of course smoothly without stutter. So let’s test a few things so I can forward this info to Kinefinity. I tried to replicate this isse but on our units its smooth.
let us know if disabling the network helps.

thanks for your effort.

We made a view tests and couldn’t replicated the failure.

Wich is kind of weird.

On set, three guys witnessed the stuttering playback, including the editor who did the tests just an hour ago.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

I let you know when the “phenomenon” comes back.

Formwandler Yes let us know, it could have been overheating, and that the camera fpga (processor), protected itself and notched down to a lower degree.

Hi,

Right now I have the same issue. The playback become choppy with 25fps and 50fps in project format 25fps. Record in FF 8K UHD.
