Carl from ProAV mentions it in his video - and I saw it with my own eyes - why is the Mavo Edge slightly noisier than the Mavo LF? Also wondering if we can have option for a smaller image circle in 4K and 6K modes (like 5K) to allow use of cool lenses like Fujinon MK zooms at these resolutions?

reelmedia thanx for your contribution to our new forum!. The mavo edge us very noise less at 640 iso and oversampled to 4k. Not sure what you saw. Maybe their camera was not black balanced? Side by side the mavo edge has almost a stop more latitude than the mavo lf so noise Floor is also one stop lower. You can download log footage on our website of both cameras. About fujinon mk lenses.. we have a dedicated s35 crop both 5k and 4k which matches the image circle of these lenses. Let us know if you have questions!

Got my Mavo Edge a week ago and we did already a big job. The way how this camera renders color is from a other world, and so easy to grad. I work mainly at 2560 EI. I get best result if I expose this like 1280 ISO. The noise is there for sure but it’s a beautiful natural noise. Gives me 3d flashbacks to film…. Just needs a little noise reduction and it falls in place. I could not be happier. Congrats, Kinefinity

Raymond hey Raymond! Congratulations with the arrival of your camera! Where are you from? The noise is indeed unpolluted, untouched, so unlike a lot of cameras that do heavy in camera noise reduction which is always a compromise in terms of quality if you compare it to gpu intensive programs like neat video. Tgerfor the noise has no artefacts and can be analysed easily and taken out whenever you feel like doing so. Great to here you are able to use the 2nd base iso but expose to the right by rating your camera lower in sensitivity and still get enough highlight retention. This is ofc the gateway to super clean images 🙂 hope to hear and see more of your shoots and camera builds! Great to have you here.

Jerome Thanks for clarification. It’s true it might not have been black-balanced I didn’t check that. Has new s35 mode with smaller image circle been added in firmware then, as demo-model I shot on, 4K didn’t work with those lenses, way too much vignetting? But if it has - oh wow, that is sweet news!!

Just to also say thanks Jerome for setting this forum up. It just gives me so much extra confidence in making the leap on this camera and will be a fantastic resource once the camera arrives (end of the month apparently!!).

reelmedia We are in direct contact with Kinefinity and they are very open for suggestions, as you know the fw will be continuously updated over the next months, I will double check about the mk zooms, Ironically the e-mount by Kineifnity was developed inspired by using these lenses on the mavo s35 and terra. They are superb glass but for a non-standard Fujinon price, making them one of the most cost effective zooms, with superb build quality, and parfocal designs. There’s one thing which makes them a bit conservative and that their image circle, which is pretty limited, and cannot for instance cover academy ratios (22X16), but 24X 12.7mm should def work, and it could be the case that the fw is still going for the easiest calculation shooting slighty wider, and you wouild see some vignetting, I will check if this is still the case, but I can def assure you that 24X 12.7 will be the final aspect for s35 dci on the MAVO Edge, .will check this, and push, if its not yet the case, you have to add frame markers in the live view, to make life a bit easier, and push in slightly in post, but again, this is probably already not the case anymore, but I lost track of all the recent fw which we got, and are testing 🙂

Jerome I completely agree - I waited on the Mavo Edge, purely to be able to use these Zooms, they are incredible lenses. The demo-model had heavy vignetting at all s35 modes (too heavy to just push in unfortunately), apart from 5K, so if this could be fixed in fw, wow, this camera becomes unstoppable. I have a set of modified Contax Zeiss superseeds for when I want to go FF. Brilliant - thanks for pushing as I believe the Fujinon MK lenses + Mavo Edge is a match in heaven for documentary work!

I use the MK 50-135 it’s an amazing combo . I shoot Ana 5:6 , so I can crop in post to 4k horizontal or vertical. This format gives so much options

Having now worked with the Mavo Edge for a couple of days, I would like to take back any concerns over noise. It is simply a stunning image from this camera. After years working with the Sony F5 and FS7, finally I get an image that looks incredible.

I get the best/amazing results setting the camera to ISO 2560 and then set the meter to ISO 800. Nice beautiful noise, can easily be removed, if not desired.

When I set the meter to ISO 2560 my footage looks underexposed almost impossible to repair.

Also get great result setting the camera to ISO 5120 and set the meter to ISO 1600, but then noise is strong, still beautiful.

Looks to me the Mavo Edge behaves much like the Alexa (800 ISO) when it comes to speed..

sure no e-nd filter engaged, but would be a classic…🙂.

people including me don’t use meters anymore and go by the wave form. But if you want to figure out your working ISO, expose a science proper according to the waveform, then see what the meter tells you, then you know your working ISO.

It was the same with film I never exposed Tri-x with 400 ISO, I always got best result with ISO320.

reelmedia hey reelmedia to me the sweet spot is shooting in cine ei, especially in the new fw which comes ot next week (already testing it). start with cine ei 640 and 500. 640 for hard contrast scenes and 500 for a bit more ettr in softer light. Let me know if you have any questions about this.
