I’ve watched through every video and read through every review I can find, but somehow, no one who’s used the camera, has mentioned anything about the monitoring features available on Kinefinty’s EVF and 5″/7″ monitors for the Edge. Or discussed the significant matter of rigging them.
What are the options for frame guides, focus confirmation and exposure confirmation?
I assume “output blanking” is an opaque mask, to show you the frame you’re composing for. But is that a correct assumption? And if so, is it adjustable? can you change the level of opacity? Or it it just a frameline and not an opaque mask at all (a massive dealbreaker for me personally).
Do the EVF and monitors have peaking? Or 1:1 pixel zoom for checking focus? If they have a zoom-in function, can it be used while the camera is recording?
Is there a waveform available? I’ve seen histogram listed, but histograms are stupid. Can the waveform be easily flicked on and off with a function button (and how adjustable is it, in terms of size and opacity).
Is there False Colour? And if so, does it measure the underlying log footage, or the IRE values of whatever LUT you’re using?
Having two video outputs that use a single cable to feed both the monitor and EVF is a wonderful design element (to save on cable gack) but it doesn’t mean much, if the monitoring features on the EVF/Monitors are too limited.
ALSO, rigging…
What options are there for rigging the EVF? The stock Movcam solutions that are provided look pretty woeful (only giving about 10cm or so of adjustment). Is there any kind of adapter that will take the dovetail built into the side of the EVF, and provide an Arri-location pin, or even just a ¼-20″ hole (to allow us to mount the EVF on to more conventional EVF rigging solutions)?
