I didn’t know where to put this discussion.

Currently looking at different types of diffusion filters, trying to put together a kit to bring.

Filtration is subjective, but I was wondering if people have preferences of Ultra Con versus Low Con filters versus Soft Con.
Jerome, I know you have mentioned using Ultra Con filters in the past. I have a Ultra Con 1 coming in the mail, curious of the strengths people prefer. I’m looking at adding the Ultra Con 2 as well.

Does anyone have opinions on the Low Cons? I am not a huge fan of added halation/blooming as that reminds me of Black Pro Mist which I already have a ⅛ and ¼ that I don’t really use anymore.

Then there are Soft Con filters as well.

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts and if anyone has examples.

I’m aware of the Tiffen Diffusion tests, but they don’t show the Ultra Cons or Low Cons to my knowledge.

Sean_Conley You might want to look into ultracon2, ultracon 1 is pretty subtle, watch out with direct light hitting the glass, it will glare. This effect is present on all filters that tend to fog the blacks, so also white promist, thats why on black promist they added black specks o mitigate this effect which can result into the windscreen effect like on wide angles, or stopped down lenses. If you are only looking for low contrast, like shooting a lomo superspeed wide open, you want the digicons from schneider or ultracons from Tiffen, they will not effect the sharpness of your image and dont add artefacts like blooming, only thing you have to watch out is direct light hitting the filter, you can mitigate this by means of a mattebox or a controlled lighted environment. Soft con is not interesting, its just another variation of the promist holly woods etc.
