Hi, I’m considering this camera for an upcoming narrative feature production in remote areas of the world. We require high quality with compact size. I have a few questions that I’m hoping folks can help with: Something I read somewhere made it sound like Kinefinity’s own lenses could be mounted directly to the native mount without needing to use one of the adapters. But I can’t find any confirmation of this, and the lenses don’t seem to be available in Kinefinity mount? Also, I can’t find any tests of these lenses online. Anyone know more about these lenses? Is there any detailed information on the weatherproofing and temperature requirements for the camera? We use the 3600 nit monitor from TVLogic for certain types of shooting in the sun and don’t want to use the monitor from Kinefinity. Hey the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8k and other Kinefinity camera’s have a native mount which is not designed to put lenses on directly and us called Kinemount. For Mavo primes I advice to work with Pl mounts. A lot of footage exist shot with these primes especially if you broaden your search to Nitecore primes which are essentially the same lenses. The camera is like most other cinema cameras not weather proofed. You may want to add some protection when shooting in humid conditions

Currently camera controls can’t be changed with third party monitors however it carries a normal 3g sdi signal so all sdi monitors will work

I have just learned about the black-balancing requirement. Do you have any more information about this? I’m concerned it will be impractical or even impossible to use this camera on a professional set in strong weather. We’ll be going outdoors in Greenland… indoors… outdoors… and also shooting in India. It sounds like every time we change temperature, we’ll need to remove the lens, warm up the camera, etc, etc. It’s hard to imagine doing this on a cold day outside, on a cliff, with people wearing gloves.

Is the Edge really only suited for a constant temperature?

larry black balancing takes 5 minutes, and we rarely see blackbalancing issues, its mostly a thing after updating your fw, because some inherent calibration changes after each fw to optimize the readout. Even in cold weather i wouldnt be so concerned. A camera going off calibration is rare to be seen, but in such weather especially going from warm to cold might eventually do something with the calibration, so make it a practice to do blackbalancing now and then.

Thank you. That article is helpful! I have also considered renting the Arri Alexa Mini LF, which does not require black balancing due to the temperature controlled sensor, but that camera is bulkier than I would like and also isn’t as suitable for low light, from what I understand. (I am going to post another thread about low light).
