The safest play (particularly for anyone who thinks they’ll shoot 8k at some point), would be the previous generations of Samsung “Pro” NVMEs. The 970 Pro or 960 Pro, as they use 2-bit NAND, and will never slow down in write speeds (unless you completely fill the drives).
The newer 980 Pros use 3-bit NAND, and whilst still very fast, and with a cache that refreshes quickly enough to offer good sustained write-times overall. The simple fact is they DO still rely on a cache, and when that cache fills, write speeds plummet - which can potentially be a liability when recording such high data rates.
They might be fine. But if you want to be safe, stick to the 970 Pros and 960 Pros.
