´While searching for the most suitable cine zoom lens for my purposes, I decided to try out the Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T2.9. It is a S35+ lens that can be used with 1.4x expanders to cover fullframe, then covering 35-140 T4.
Since I don’t have a 1.4x expander here, I tried it in S35 mode on my Edge 8K. Just for fun I went in 4K UHD mode to see what would happen.
As expected, the lens hard vigniettes at the wide angle but that started to disappear around 55mm.
Zooming in 12-18% (depending on how much vignette is acceptable for the scene) on the wide end would give 28-30mm on the wide instead of 35 with the adapter.
Now, the one thing that is not too nice is the increased distortion especially towards the long end. Quite some pincushioning.
Anyone with experiences working with S35+ lenses in FF mode? Is it worth it to correct the distortion and zoom in to have a more usable zoom range, in this case 28-112 T2.9?
Anything else to watch out for or consider?
