like most of the people on this planet, i didn’t get the chance to see it in real life yet, but from the looks of it i’m not really happy about the camera being quite a lot taller with the baseplate. Especially for a shoulder friendly shooting style i don’t think that i’d be too happy with it - one of the (many actually) reason i dislike the canon c500.

i’d love to see a rig with a basic shoulder support, top handle (this looks nice) and an extension handle (like the one from shape for fs7)

if you get it shoulder rigged, i’d love to see how it looks like on the shoulder!

Since its Arri lws ,- a standard that follows any camera manufacturer today- it’s not taller than any other camera. The measurent for arri Lws is center rod to center lens =85mm.
It’s just that it looks tall due to the fact that the MAVO Edge is a relative small camera. But I see your point. If its so tiny you might want to rig it up as tiny as possible. If you don’t need Lws Rod support you can go with the rod support of the topplate (for your focus motor) and use a simple shoulder plate. Some cameras have the shoulder plate sit behind the rod support so it can sit more towards the camera body, but for such a small camera that’s no option. Because you want the center of gravity of the build right above your shoulder. With such a tiny camera that would mean that you would have to have a huge battery to counteract. Especially when working with cine lenses this is very unconvenient. The smaller the camera the harder it is to rig out. Would you be able to send some pictures of a build you prefer?

I think we’re totally on the same page when it comes to rig as tiny as possible/necessary. And you’re also right that making smaller cameras work for shoulder very hard indeed. Tricky to decide wether to make a sacrifice on center of gravity and keeping it low weight, or rigging it up more but have it balanced.

Personally i would always work with a heavy v-mount to get a bit more weight in the back, and i’m happy to have the front of the camera right next to my face, even though that makes it a bit awkward for pulling focus.

So far the arri lws support for fs5 or the zacuto (pictured here) is my go to for smaller cameras.

personally the most important thing is that the lens is not higher up than my chin/mouth - which looks like it could be tricky with this setup. but it’s hard to judge from pictures

but we’re pretty flexible anyway - camera above the head is fine as well for some shots - that was the day i fell in love with that camera btw 😉

I think this is a fantastic design, it will work seamlessly with my current hand-held rig that has an Arri dovetail on top, and the short length allows the camera to be low and back.

How long can you power from the Two NPF550 batteries ? Is it momentary hot swap or you can run for a few minutes ?

The npf batteries are 7v batteries and two of them are put in linear to get to 14 volt or so, two of them combined are about 45wh , so you should be able to power the camera for at least an hour.
