Hey guys,

Just wanted to start a broad discussion on the new cine “affordable” lenses.

I own:
Lomo OKC 1 - 18 - 1 / 18mm F.3.2 Lomo in PL
Lomo OKC3 - 22 - 1 / 22mm F2.8 Lomo in PL that need a tab bit of servicing
Lomo OKC8 - 35 - 1 / 35mm F2.2 Lomo in PL in a housing that is impractical (love the lens)
Lomo OKC1 - 40 - 1 40mm F2.2 Lomo in PL in a brass / gold housing that weights a TON, but very very lovely lens and also need greasing.
Lomo OKC6 - 50 - 1 / 50mm F2.2 Lomo in PL that would need more grease on the focus ring.

Leica R :
Missmatch lenses consisting of a
24 and 28 Elmarit
35mm Summicron
50mm Summicron
90mm Summicron

And you know what ? I’m tired of those.
The summicrons (35, 90) are my fav and most used out of the rest. Why ?

Because I’m in no position to afford a complete set of Leica R, nor I’m in a position of affording a full rehouse of my Lomos that would make sense to get my money back.

I rented sets of FULL cinemod Leica R that produced some really heavy CA and breathing that were a problem on jobs
My Lomo are way too vintage to the different stuff that I do and produce too much CA

To keeps thing into perspective, my works is between small TV commercial and commecial digital work for Parfumes and Luxuary products (studios and location shooting in a controlled environnement) and more doco style in sports (more day exteriors)

I’m mostly shooting on Summicron-C (lovely but lacks of characters), Zeiss Ultra Primes and various still lenses when abroad (leica R, Sigma Art).

I love lenses with characters, bokeh, rendering of faces are Important to me but I’m seriously thinking of selling all my lenses, and switching to all cine housing like Dulens

Why ?
Mechanics (super important to me)
Avaibility (no way I’ll spend 5k grand on that 19mm Leica)
Way less CA problems wide open (hello Leica R 19mm, vintage Canon FDs)
Full Frame ready,
Controled vintage look.

For the Lomo through I love the look of the lomo, I have like 1 or 2 jobs a year that got the right budget / look / time / ACs to work with them.
With war with Ukaine and Russia, I don’t see how I will be able to get my lomo serviced and rehouse at an affordable price while I can rent Super Speed Lomo sets at 2 or 3 rental company in Paris.

What are you through on this ? Whats your choice ? Are you not tired of the Ebay hunt for lenses ? Am I getting crazy ?

Jerome you have access to a lot of the lenses that I mentionned here, what are you thought on this ?
Did you compared Lomo Standart Speed to the Dulens ? What’s your take on it regarding look, contrast, sharpness, CA and rendering of faces ?

The asian lens market is growing so fast, it’s impressive.
